Brel.
After a few weeks without any blog posts, I decided it was time to get back on track, so my fourth outing was to Brel - one of Ashton Lane's nicest bars. I'd been to Brel a couple times before, so I already knew it was a good place to go, but if anything that only made me more keen to go back and include it in the blog.
Inside, Brel is low-lit and has fairy lights hanging over the bar, so it feels warm and cosy, which is especially welcoming on a cold, wet night in November. Much like Saint Luke's, Brel is also dog-friendly, which definitely bumps it up more than a little in my estimations. Since the weather was typically Glaswegian, we sat inside, but through the back Brel also has a conservatory area and a huge beer garden; both of which are great to sit in during the months when you can actually tolerate being outdoors for more than a few minutes at a time.
There was a large group of us at Brel, so we had a pretty varied selection of drinks, ranging from pints to cocktails - all of which were very good. Brel boasts a massive selection of different drinks, with more than 66 beers on offer (the most expensive of which, Westvleteren XII, is £20 and apparently the best in the world) and more gins than you even knew existed, enticing you to return and try them all. While Brel's prices are typical of Ashton Lane, they're well worth the money and won't disappoint. Brel's offerings don't just end at drinks either, as their food is also extremely good; I opted for the Brelburger with pastrami, but everything at the table looked just as good.
Brel stands fairly uncontested as one of my favourite places on Ashton Lane, and while I knew that from previous visits, my most recent trip only confirmed it. Whether you want to just have a few quiet drinks in the bar area, or sit in the restaurant and have a full meal, Brel has whatever you might want. As always, don’t forget to have a look at my Instagram.

Brel from Ashton Lane (thankfully the doors weren't open when we went) |

Ever a man of simple pleasures, Andy was clearly very pleased with his pint. |
